The Robinson Carving Knife

Your bonsai tool collection isn't complete without the Robinson Carving Knife. It is a must for rendering small branches and trunks into interesting dead wood, or "jinn" elements. It will also clean out the cracks and grooves in your dead wood features, without smoothing out the ridges. Designed by Dan Robinson, the knife is offered in both right and left hand versions. Dan uses both of them.

For years I was unsatisfied with the tools available, and during the 1987 Portland, Oregon ABS-BCI convention I was introduced to the master tool maker of "Kansean Tools." Through a translater, I described what I needed, we made some drawings, and conceived of a new knife. Two weeks later, he sent me the knife, and it is now one of the most important tools in my collection."
